Today’s February 15th of 2008. Fourteen years have passed since Robocity was built to give refuge to abandoned robots. I wasn’t even born, back then, but this is my city, this is the world I learned to love and appreciate, a place I feel I belong to. Today’s the 14th Anniversary of the Foundation of Robocity, and I’m just a five years old child. I wish I was born far before 2002, so to see it grow, but this didn’t happen, so I can only share what my few years of life let me share.

Robocity is famous between outsiders. People (humans) come over to visit almost every day, some of them are scared by the sight of so many robots, some are fascinated by what we managed to build here, and our peaceful lifestyle. Yeah, Robocity is well known as the “city of peace”. Never thought differently about it, that’s what we try to live in everyday: PEACE. But Robocity is not a paradise. Oh no! Not at all. It’s not a place where you can find eternal happiness, or where sufferance and pain disappear. No way. Robocity was born because of sufferance and pain. It was born as a refuge for abandoned robots of any kind, and only afterward its citizens decided to make it into a real mini-town.

I just need to look at my father and at my friends to see the dark face of Robocity. My father, Firebot Allen, was scrapped by his human creators because they feared he could replace them at work. He was thrown in a trash tip like a broken dishwasher and he was rescued by our friend Aquila, who underwent his same destiny. Dad and Aquila were the first ones to inhabit Robocity, the first refugees. And then I look at my other close friends… Rendor became a Robocitan after being sexually abused by his creators, Jazz lost his parents and got depressed and his relatives didn’t want him so his only hope was coming here in Robocity, Destroyer is an ex-I.A.R. robot with mental illnesses who found his own redemption here, Eridian is an autistic child taken care of by his older brother, Meron Soldiery saw his mother die and has to deal with his family’s problems, Rock was treated like a Military Robot when he was an innocent Experimental Robot, Tam was used as a clown in a circus and he was then abandoned in the street…

Where’s the happiness? Where’ the paradise? Robocity is nothing like that. Our ideals and lifestyle come from a painful past, it’s what we learned from life. I’m not the right one to talk about these things, I know… but my teacher asked us to write a short essay, today that’s the Anniversary, or a poem. I don’t feel like writing poetry this year, I preferred writing down what I think Robocity is, talk directly to anyone who will read this, even if it’s just a small text written by a five years old child.

A few days ago I was at Jazz’s apartment, looking at pictures from his photo album together with him, Rendor, Rebecca, Lift Aid and Thunder. There were photos from his old family, his creators who loved him as he was their real son - and Jazz is really one of the few Robocitans to have had creators like that - photos of him as a baby, photos of a happy child who lived a carefree life ’till the day everything broke, when his parents died in a car accident. Jazz burst into tears at those memories, at those photos, and I cried with him; we all cried with him.

I don’t know, I may be wrong… but I really don’t feel like saying Robocity is a “reign of peace and happiness” as if it was a real-life fairy tale. It’s not a fairy tale, as this peace was reached at a high price: the Robocitans’ past life.

Happy 14th Anniversary, Robocity. I hope the next Robocitans will be fruits of love, not of pain, sufferance or war.

This is something I wrote this morning at school, for the Anniversary day ^^ Looks like my essay was featured between the Top 5 of the compositions of the whole Robocity. I’m honored!

You really don't write enough on this place. I'll admit that I absolutely LOATH the Michael Bay universe--there's not a shred of light (or common sense) to it--but then I can go to Robocity and feel MUCH better, to see a bright, kind, compassionate human point of view.
